The Egyptian Mint Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Finance, has begun circulating the newly redesigned one-pound coin in the market, as part of a broader strategy to upgrade coinage and facilitate daily transactions.
The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the new one-pound coin will circulate alongside the current version, with no plans to withdraw existing coins from the market.
The move is part of efforts to increase the supply of coins across various denominations, including quarter-pound, half-pound, and one-pound coins, to ensure sufficient availability of small change, especially in high-traffic areas.
Design Reflects Egypt’s Identity
Officials noted that the redesign carries cultural and historical significance, reflecting Egypt’s identity and highlighting national development projects through updated coin designs.
The Ministry of Finance is also planning to introduce a new two-pound coin in the coming months to further ease transactions and meet market demand.
