Startup Genome has released a report titled Egypt Startup Ecosystem Report, in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency and ITIDA.

The report analyzes Egypt’s startup and innovation ecosystem while promoting it globally and supporting foreign investment inflows and international partnerships.

Over $2.1 Billion in Funding and a Growing Startup Base

The report highlights that Egypt’s startup sector attracted more than $2.1 billion in venture capital funding between 2020 and 2025, reflecting strong ecosystem acceleration.

It also notes that the market is home to more than 1,500 active startups, along with over 15 venture capital (VC) and corporate venture capital (CVC) funds, reinforcing Cairo’s position as a leading startup hub in the Middle East and Africa.

A Regional Launchpad for Expansion into Gulf and Africa

Egypt is increasingly positioning itself as a regional launchpad for tech startups, with companies building their business models locally before scaling efficiently into Gulf and African markets, supported by a highly competitive and cost-effective talent pool.

Strong Exits and High-Growth Tech Sectors

The report also recorded total startup exits worth $7.4 billion across more than 50 transactions, signaling growing maturity in Egypt’s startup ecosystem and the availability of clear exit pathways.

Key sectors driving growth include artificial intelligence, fintech, deep tech, semiconductors, and Arabic large language model development.

The report emphasized that Egypt’s strong pool of technical talent remains a core competitive advantage, enabling startups to scale efficiently and operate across multiple markets.
